Three things decide it: frequency (deeper water wants lower frequency), mounting style (transom for most trailer boats, thru-hull for better high-speed readings, in-hull for no holes), and hull material (metal hulls need the right housing). Match the voltage first: trolling motors are 12V, 24V or 36V — check your motor's spec. Then size for run time: a motor drawing 50A at full power uses 50Ah per hour, so a 100Ah lithium gives roughly 2 hours flat-out or a full day of normal fishing (you rarely run full power). We recommend a DEDICATED deep-cycle lithium for the trolling motor, separate from your start and electronics batteries — lithium holds voltage under load right to the end, where lead-acid fades as it drains. The same DC-DC rule as vehicles applies afloat: an outboard's charging circuit is unregulated and often modest (many outboards only make 6-15A of usable charge), and it must never be connected straight to a lithium house battery. A DC-DC charger between the start battery and the house battery converts whatever the engine provides into a correct multi-stage lithium (or AGM) charge, protects the outboard's charging system, and keeps the start battery isolated so you can always start the engine. Size it within the outboard's charging output — tell us your engine and house bank and we'll spec it.

Usually yes — and because lithium gives you 80-100% usable capacity versus roughly 50% for AGM, a 100Ah lithium replaces about 200Ah of AGM at a third of the weight. Three checks before you swap: (1) Every charge source needs a lithium profile — your 240V charger, MPPT and inverter/charger must be set (or settable) to a LiFePO4 program; old fixed-voltage chargers can't do it. (2) Alternator charging must go through a DC-DC charger — never connect an alternator straight to lithium. Lithium's very low internal resistance lets it pull maximum current continuously, which can cook an alternator, and modern smart alternators don't hold the right voltage anyway. (3) The BMS can disconnect the battery instantly to protect itself, so the system must tolerate that — another reason the DC-DC charger belongs in the circuit. Warranty periods differ by brand and product type (Victron power products 5 years but Victron batteries 2-3 years; Garmin marine 2 years; Fusion Lithium 3-year replacement; Energy Eco batteries 5-10 years) — the exact terms, with a link to the manufacturer's official policy, are shown in the FAQ on every product page. Grey-import gear from overseas marketplaces often carries no valid Australian warranty at all; if the price looks too good, that's usually why.

NMEA 2000 is the standard network that lets marine electronics from any brand share data — depth, GPS, engine data, wind, AIS — on one cable system. Every network needs the same five ingredients: (1) a backbone cable running the length of the installation, (2) a T-piece for each device, (3) a terminator at EACH end of the backbone — missing terminators cause most 'network not working' calls, (4) a drop cable (max 6m) from each tee to its device, and (5) one power tee feeding the backbone 12V. Count your devices, buy that many tees plus two terminators and a power tee, and you have a network. Our NMEA 2000 starter kits bundle exactly this.

Items must be unused, unopened and in original packaging with proof of purchase. Approved change-of-mind returns incur a 25% restocking fee, with original shipping and payment-processing costs deducted, and return freight at your cost. Two ratings matter, and most people only check one. The current rating protects the cable as normal — but lithium batteries can deliver enormous short-circuit currents, far beyond lead-acid, so Victron's Wiring Unlimited also requires the fuse's INTERRUPT rating (breaking capacity) to be equal to or greater than the battery bank's maximum prospective short-circuit current. A fuse with too low an interrupt rating can fail catastrophically instead of breaking the fault. That's why Class T fuses (up to 200kA interrupt) are the go-to for lithium banks, while a standard MEGA fuse (1,000-2,500A interrupt) is only suitable for small systems. Every lithium installation needs at least one fuse in the DC line that meets this — tell us your bank and we'll spec the right fuse and holder.
